No. You have two options. Add you to their policy as an additional driver in which case you are covered and higher premiums will apply or specifically name you as an unauthorized driver in which case you won't be covered and neither will your parents should you be involved in a collision..
You can do anything you want as long as you don't get caught.
Follow your local laws.
I worked for the DMV for 5 years. You need to be on the insurance. Also, your parents will have options to lower their rates by adding in a device that monitors hard or extreme braking/accelerating, so if you are a safe driver you could potentially get some lowered rates for your parents.
Most states require insurance
If you are a good driver, like me. You could drive for years and years without car insurance. That was bad though. I saved over 7 grand, but EVERYONE should have car insurance, its the law. It's not a scam. Dont save money like I did, get good full coverage because youre young.
Your parents have to add you in the car insurance policy as an “additional driver” in the household. Otherwise, if ANY family member has an accident, the insurance company will not pay under the policy for “material misrepresentation” which basically means lying to the insurance company.
Your permit is no longer valid once you get your license
You can have them add you to their insurance policy if you do drive without insurance and get into a car accident you will pay FULL out of pocket if you do get insurance they might pay some it but if you get in a wreck and the person car is a total damage of $10,000 in damages you have to pay out of pocket so no you shouldn’t drive without insurance
