# Couldn't Gravity move faster than the speed of light?

If a black hole can restrict light from escaping isn't the gravity going the same speed or faster? that's after the event horizon...if you go down deeper in the black hole the gravity is stronger so technically that would mean that gravity can move something faster than light.

• No, the speed of gravity's pull is a static amount for all objects. Ignoring air resistance and surface anomalies, two objects - a bowling ball and a golf ball, for example, when dropped from the same height will hit the ground at the same time. If dropped from a great height they will reach maximum speed - known as "terminal velocity" - and not go any faster once they reach this point.

This means that, ignoring air resistance, an object falling freely near the Earth's surface increases its velocity by 9.80665 m/s (32.1740 ft/s or 22 mph) for each second of its descent. Thus, an object starting from rest will attain a velocity of 9.80665 m/s (32.1740 ft/s) after one second, approximately 19.62 m/s (64.4 ft/s) after two seconds, and so on, adding 9.80665 m/s (32.1740 ft/s) to each resulting velocity. Also, again ignoring air resistance, any and all objects, when dropped from the same height, will hit the ground at the same time.

gravity is the means to form a magnetic attraction via a process of any material or properties of any material that can be affected by a magnetic force pull, or being pulled if a body is in free motion and cannot be affected or attracted it then can travel at any speed faster than light.

Gravity is just the contribution to spacetime of all the matter in the Universe, based on how far away it is. There is no way to reveal "speed of gravity" in any physical circumstance, short of crashing two black holes together... and would be really hard to detect even then.

The contribution to spacetime of each bit of matter... did not fall into the black hole. There is no need to "propagate out".

Nope, it does not mean that at all. Matter may have fallen in, but spacetime did not.

Hey "Steve4Physics"... Kopeikin did NOT measure the "speed of gravity" despite his intentions, only the "speed of light". This is pretty well covered in arxiv.org. You really should review the literature and the critiques.
