I think he is exactly where he should be rated - hard puncher, lots of heart, very little skill.
No, he's a warrior and a good one at that. Always enjoying watching him fight.
hes a decent fighter... he really beats everyone fought(close fight with kotletink), the Khan fights was the only one he was outclassed.
Maidana is pretty much unpolished and clumsy. However, he displayed great heart vs. Victor Ortiz. Everyone talks about his power punching and, yes, that's what makes him overrated.
He'll develop eventually but it can take a while. Still 27 years old.
Personally i think he is underrated...
No Victor Ortiz is coz he got knocked out by Maidana!
i think hes underrated. he is a warrior who will fight till the end and he doesnt care who he fights. he may not be the greatest skilled but he gives his all and punches to ko you so hes great to watch. he is a real fighter unlike a lot of these about today who only care about making money and calling out guys who are past it or in a lighter weight division so they can get an easier fight.
Power is one of the most overrated attributes in Boxing and fans automatically assume if a fighter can punch then he's good. I'm not saying Marcos Maidana isn't good, however, I am saying that he's nowhere near what some tend to think he is. Just look at how he struggled with a faded Erik Morales.
The majority of the time with fighters who can punch fans and members of the media alike tend to overrated their ability. Just as we seen with Kelly Pavlik, when a fighter can knock an opponent dead in two rounds nobody notices the little nook and crannies that seam to be missing from his game.
Nobody noticed that Kelly Pavlk had slow plotting feet that couldn't change direction, or that Shane Mosley tends telegraph the right hand, or that Marcos Maidana can only do two things, come-forward and punch.
I believe he's very overrated and the only way he'll be someone like Khan, Bradley, Judah, and even Alexander is if they run out of gas and the wheels on the bus start to slow. Other than that those type of fighters should box circles around Maidana.
I was actually surprised to see Amir Khan come so close to getting knocked out by Maidana considering he's worked with a strength and conditioning coach. At the same time Khan's a bit overrated as well so I guess there both in the same boat.
